Five years later, she’s still working the task, but nevertheless, she’s embraced genealogy with a passion. Michelle specializes in French-Canadians and Genetic Genealogy. She currently serves as CAGGNI’s President. When she’s not doing genealogy, Michelle is an engineering director at a biotech firm in the Chicagoland area.

Larry Olson is a Minnesota native, who after living on both coasts, finally settled with his family in Chicagoland in 1985. He has been doing family research since the early '70s, when a grandmother told him he was related to John Philip Sousa via one of his German lines. He has never proved that legend, but he's discovered a lot of other things and had a great time doing it (Norwegians and Germans on his side, and Swedes and Rev. War veterans on his wife's). Larry's other detective "hobby" involves working for the IRS Crime Lab as a forensic document examiner. He hopes that one day someone in his immediate family will appreciate all the work he has done (while he was neglecting them for dead relatives and dusty old records...)

One of Larry's proudest accomplishments was presiding when "CAGGNI" was born. The group had been created several years before as the Northern Illinois Personal Ancestral File User's Group - NIPAFUG - meeting at the Schaumburg LDS Church. Because of an increasing diversity of genealogical interests within the membership, the group decided to expand its scope and change its name to the more melodious "CAGG-NI.".

Mary Hoyer                                       member since: 20 Feb 2009
Fundraising/Group Purchasing Director (2012-present)
Contact:  fundraising@caggni.org

Mary has been gathering family stories and artifacts since she was a little girl. She was fascinated by the stories of ancestors who came from Ireland, Scotland, and Prussia; others who traveled in covered wagons into Indian territory, and Choctaw heritage that has ancestral ties back to England, Holland, and France in the 1500s and 1600s. Mary was fortunate to inherit the genealogical research of an aunt and 2nd cousins from both sides of the family. In an effort to authenticate this information, she joined CAGGNI to sharpen her computer research skills and write the stories of her ancestors and produce a series of family history documentary films. Mary has been weaving tapestries for corporate and private collections for 40 years and developed a line of color therapy fabrics. She recently found out that she has many professional weavers in her family tree. She continues to apply her work and research in the field of energy medicine.

Caron loves history, biography, puzzles and a good mystery, which makes her perfectly suited to genealogy research! She has been researching her family history since a 6th grade school project got her interested. She has been using the computer and internet since before it was “cool”. She uses The Master Genealogist as her primary software and also uses Family Tree Maker and Ancestry to share with others in her family. Caron’s only vice is genealogy research so she has subscriptions to many resources including Ancestry.com, Genealogybank.com, NEGHS, Footnote, and Godfrey Memorial Library. She belongs to several local genealogy groups and is also a member of the Genealogical Speakers Guild and a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.  She blogs as Your Cousin Caron at http://yourcousincaron.blogspot.com/

Promotions & Publicity Director (2009-2010, 2012-present)
Audit Committee Member (2012-present)
Contact:  promotions@caggni.org

Bill is CAGGNI's Promotions and Publicity Chair. He has been researching his roots through his membership in CAGGNI for 10 years. The ancestors are Irish and German, coming to USA in 1831 and 1858 respectively. While he has 300 persons on his family tree, he has hit the "brick wall" on both branches. A one-week genealogy trip to Ireland in 2008 was unsuccessful.

Reunion for the Mac Special Interest Group (Reunion SIG) Leader
(2012-present)
Contact:  reunion@caggni.org

Marscha began researching her family history in the mid-1970’s and worked intensely on it until the early 1980’s (and has the paper files to prove it!). Returning to genealogy in 2010 she joined the genealogy computer age, and was thrilled when she discovered CAGGNI. Recently she switched from a pc - Family Tree Maker to a Mac - Reunion 10. When not working on her genealogy she may be found chasing some bird in another country.
